BAD: In some lights, it looks black, and I wanted a blue teakettle, like the one I have that isn't as high-quality. It also has a very minor mark that concerns me, right in the middle of the front (for right-handers), and a tag is missing, so I'm guessing it's a return. This is a lot of money for a teakettle by my standards, so I'm disappointed. Will try it for a few days to decide whether to return.

GOOD: Of several that I tried in stores, one of the best designs for avoiding steam burns and easy operation. Flat, wide bottom which works better for burners, especially on gas stoves. Very loud whistle that changes tones -- although it's not the pleasing Horner harmonica one that's on their model that costs twice the price of this one. It's not as irritating as many, either, and you can definitely hear it a room or two away, which was the main reason that I bought it. Without that, my little Copco one was and still is just fine and less one-third the price (and cobalt blue!).

This is the second Chantal teakettle I have purchased and both models have melted and the top has fallen off. This was not a cheap kettle and I have never had this happen ever. The first one I bought, the whistle top was plastic. With this model I thought it would last longer because the whistle top was stainless. However, it's hinged in plastic. So it melted also. Stay away from this kettle, it's only one month old and it is finished.

I have had this kettle for about a year now and I love it. It is beautiful on the stove, the blue color is gorgeous and has been easy to clean if grease splatters from other burners. The whistle however takes some getting used to. As others have said it sounds more like a train whistle than your typical kettle and then changes to a higher tone if you don't turn off the heat right away. It's pleasant enough but not a sound that makes you jump for the stove. I still wonder for a second what that noise could be before jumping.

The kettle didn't whistle once and I realized it was because the top hadn't been pushed down all the way after washing it. After that I made sure to fill the kettle from the spout so that there was less opening/closing of the top- thus less chance that the whistle wouldn't work.

I took one star off only because I think the whistle could be improved, but it works great for me. But I wouldn't recommend this kettle for people who have trouble hearing or may forget the kettle is on due to the possibility of the whistle not working properly.
